The Epistle of Q — Chapter 143

Here we are already at the end of the first week in February and the world is still wrapped up in fear about the virus. Some friends won’t ride on ski lifts together, some friends can’t even go to their local ski hills, some friends won’t come for dinner, some friends have not had dinner… It’s a weird world and since I don’t want to be accused of NOISE, I will say no more on this point. Besides, in my ears (coming from new and very good headsets) I am listening to Pat Boone singing April Love… and that is such a retro but delightful thought!!

There really isn’t much news to share and to comment on the news (at least the stations that seep into my place) would simply be NOISE. There is so little coverage of the really important stuff that if I didn’t go to the gym a couple of times a week and get to watch the very early morning news I wouldn’t know about much of what is also happening in BC. Moreover if I didn’t get several news feeds on my computer each day I wouldn’t know that China is seriously threatening Taiwan, that there is considerable unrest in parts of Africa, and that Venezuela is in seriously deficit and may soon collapse (funny, it is only one of two countries that has more oil reserves than Canada, and just a few years ago before it began to pursue a socialist agenda, it was a wealthy and vibrant economy!!).

But let me leave all that aside for a moment. After all it is Saturday, I’ve just done a 35+ minute ride on the stationary bike, and I’ve checked my e-mails so maybe I will be permitted a bit of a ramble. Let me bring you up to date on the ski scene here at Apex (the ski hill few people knew about until the pandemic forced people to look for outdoors excuses).

At the end of January I managed to get in thirteen [13] days of skiing. This time frame gave me 122 runs totalling 58,664 Vertical metres of skiing. The distance on the ground was 313.16 kms. And on one of the runs I managed a top speed of 75.8 km/hr. And most days, no matter how many are in the lift-lines, as soon as we get off the lift whatever run we choose, usually has next to no one in front (or behind) us. So if you are stuck inside and are wondering what to do to re-ignite some serious mental wellness, come for a visit. Let me know and I might even be able to find a guest suite and a soaker tub to enjoy at the end of the day. And there is plenty of Okanagan wine and/or craft beer awaiting as well.

Have a great week leading up to Valentine’s Day… I’ll be back (and remind me to tell you about some books I am reading that take me back to the earliest days of my teen years!!)!!

As always,
g.w.
