The Epistle of Q — Chapter 152 (p.s.)

Just in case you missed the gist of my recent concerns with the howling about how we are doomed. May I present how the UN warns of imminent apocalypse- again!
We must act decisively now to avert a climate catastrophe.UN 2021
Every world leader must immediately declare a ‘state of climate emergency’ or face ‘catastrophic’ resultsUN 2020
The next three years will be crucial. If emissions can be brought permanently lower by 2020 then the temperature thresholds leading to runaway irreversible climate change will not be breached. – UN 2017
If there’s no action before 2012, that’s too late. What we do in the next two to three years will determine our future. This is the defining moment.UN 2010
Reductions in greenhouse gases have to start immediately to avert a global climate disaster, which could leave island states submerged and abandoned, African crop yields down by 50%” – UN 2007
Rising sea levels, desertification and shrinking freshwater supplies will create up to 50 million environmental refugees by the end of the decade (by 2010)UN 2005
Entire nations could be wiped off the face of the earth by rising sea levels if global warming is not reversed by the year 2000.UN 1989

So let me get this straight.
Somewhere in the past twenty-one [21} years we have lost entire nations to rising sea levels yet recent tourist maps I have been given haven’t changed since I was traveling overseas in 1986.
In the first decade of this millennia, those refugees that were trying to escape civil wars and other terrorist-inspired conflicts really were leaving because of water problems – why didn’t the media pick up on that since that would have let all the warmongers off the hook, exonerated the left and damned the right significantly?
And we are now nine [9] years after the defining moment and all we did in Canada is elected Sunny Ways three [3] years in – however even he didn’t do anything during his first reign (or anything since either) except raise the carbon tax, sink the treasury, apologize to high heaven, and promote the Great Re-Set.

And all this when people are claiming that Science is very clear & settled and the debate is final. Does no one at the UN know that it is in the least unethical and within most religious communities a sin to tell a lie (and then to keep repeating it!!)?

Well let me be a little less harsh; as a professor of applied ethics I might be accused of a conflict of interest so I will simply go back to the statements above:
My interpretation is that Science is clearly unsettled, and the debate is perhaps final: there is no imminent catastrophe. So let’s get back to work at helping all people in poverty get on power grids as quickly as possible using whatever fuel source is most readily available – probably best start with natural gas, then oil and even coal & atomic energy. Let’s start with the fifty [50] or so Aboriginal communities that still are off-grid – skip the apologies and start building power plants. Let’s help the millions in Africa end in-home open-fire cooking & heating and get them onto power grids. And once we have balanced budgets, let’s start equipping office towers with solar panels and legislative grounds & every other tourist attraction with wind turbines and all politicians with bicycles that they have to ride everywhere except once they get to their local transit centre (airport or train station) but once at their destination, it’s back on the bikes folks… (Who says I can’t be supportive of alt-energy? Answer: Let’s make sure we can actually pay for it – and just think how fit our politicians will become in the process)

As always,
g.w.
