The Epistle of Q — Chapter 159

Quick thoughtsLet’s get rid of Daylight Saving…

This is a rant – or as close to one as I can muster this morning…

There now seems to be enough evidence that switching back and forth twice a year is not good for the health of a majority of us…
AND, there appears to be little saving in energy either…
On the other hand, are we really better off with an hour of extra light in the evening when so many of the population now are a bit older or have a dog and so have to get up early for a constitutional walk?
Moreover is it really a positive step to send kids to school in the dark in the winter (as proponents of year-round DT would have us do)?
And what about our circadian rhythm? Ought not we to be concerned about keeping it in balance?

So take time to tell your provincial politicians (and maybe your local ones too – I’d suggest you also talk to your federal ones but they aren’t working these days, and might never, especially if they are of certain parties who don’t hold caucuses!!) that you want us, after this weekend, to stay on Standard Time from here on in. Arizona manages to thrive by doing so, and Saskatchewan does too (although they didn’t pick the correct time zone). It may be a small point, but it would be one way to get back to the good ole days – some post-pandemic normalcy!!

Oh, by the way, if you buy a new car and you decide to give some adults a ride in the back seat, make sure to tell them not to touch the buttons and knobs, especially those related to the rear-seat heating system… more on that later…

AND, if you have an electric car or a plug-in hybrid, use the overnight charger whenever you can and try to avoid excessive use of the rapid chargers. Some batteries are showing rapid deterioration due to the lithium-ions being pushed too rapidly through the system. As I get more technical details, I will share them in future notes or chapters…

Continue to enjoy your autumn
