The Epistle of Q — Chapter 182 (Part D)

Reflections on LentThe final ski results

The Awards Banquet was held on Sunday evening and among the moments of good beer and then wine and then bubbly, time was allotted to celebrate various skill sets that were exhibited on the hill at one time or another or many times. Here are the various winners..

Just a reminder about the codes/terms:
Days = the number of days an individual put on their skis and skied at least one run

Runs = the number of times down the hill (no matter how long it takes)

Vm’s = this relates to the number of vertical metres skied from the top of each run to the ski lift (this is not to be confused with the amount of snow that is covered which will be reported as Distance) – different runs may have quite different configurations, but the Vm will be the same.

Avg-Max: each day one’s maximum speed achieved on the fastest run is recorded – the average of these speeds is computed by totalling the speeds and dividing by the number of days — in kilometres per hour

Distance = this is the amount of ground that is covered (much like when recording bicycle travel or jogging or swimming) in kilometres and each run can have varying distance depending on how a skier traverses it. For example, Grandfather’s Run is 5 km long…

Bold print = winner of that category this season

To protect the innocent each individual is identified by their code name:

Days:
the Saint – 46
gw – 40
RAR – 37
HW – 16

• Runs:
the Saint – 440
RAR – 418
gw – 385
HW – 171

Vm’s:
RAR – 206,402
the Saint – 188,665
gw – 171,401
HW – 82,103

Distance (including average per day) in kms:
the Saint – 855.0 {19.00/diem}
HW – 364.2 {22.76/diem}
gw – 809.9 {20.25/diem}
RAR – 84.0 incomplete (hasn’t the app)

Average Max Speed (individual day highest max in brackets) in kms/hr:
gw – 67.21 (91.6)
HW – 61.87 (67.7)
the Saint – 51.85 (60.5)
RAR – no data (hasn’t the app)

HW missed considerable time due to moving from one home to another; and both HW & RAR missed time due to medical moments!

Skiing certainly helped surviving Lent…
