The Epistle of Q — Chapter Nine

Some days generate more questions than others? Some of those question-generating days, raise questions that really simply initiate more questions? Today seems like one of those.

Q #1
If the news out of Russia is true that President-elect Trump has been compromised by the new KGB (I forget the initials I should be using), is this any different than Kennedy, Marilyn and the Mob in the early sixties? Or is it better to be compromised at home than internationally? Furthermore, Trump claims this is fake news which may be true, but he ran his campaign fueled by fake news — therefore does he know where this news has originated?

Q #2
If Obamacare is gutted and millions are once again trying to live but without health insurance, might that not strengthen the Obama legacy as people will look back fondly on the days when it began to look like the richest country in the world was going to care about its most vulnerable workers? LBJ diverted the majority of funds originally ear-marked for the War on Poverty into the Vietnam War yet he is still considered a fairly great President because of the Civil Rights Act. If Trump cannot fulfill most of his promises in the early months of his Presidency. and the opposition starts to remind people of his failures and how it was really better before, might not even the Republicans in Congress begin to re-focus on issues that will get them re-elected in the off-year elections in 2018?

Q #3
The cabinet shuffle in Ottawa has sent two old geezers off to do the ambassadorial gig which may be a more palatable step from appointing them to the Senate and there is now a woman leading Foreign Affairs; but are we being adequately armed to deal with the pending shifts in the world economic order, or are we still blissfully believing that these are sunny days? And ought a 29 year old be given the task of leading democratic reform? This is not to suggest that the individual shouldn’t be in cabinet; but ought not that file be led by someone who has had a fair degree of experience at different levels of government — from students’ councils, to city councils, to even provincial campaigns. It is not going to be easy to run this process.

Q #4
Which is more important next week, the Inauguration or the Packers vs Cowboys divisional playoff? And should that special pass called the Hail Mary be re-named the Hail Rogers? And does it matter if no Canadian team makes the NHL playoffs? How many of the CFL Stars who opted for free agency south of the border will actually make their NFL club’s roster? How many will be back in the CFL before Labour Day?

Q #5
If a high school had less than 400 students, it was said the students were suffering from an inferior education. How true is this myth? How much is success at learning the result of parental assisting and coaching (i.e. brow-beating) or not? and how much is due to good genetic make-up or not?

Q #6
To what extent will the carbon taxes across the country save the planet from its own demise? If the tax is not revenue neutral, will deficits be higher or lower in five years? Should Alberta shut off the oil that it is currently shipping to Vancouver through the Kinder-Morgan pipeline and by train, so west coast people can better appreciate how much they are dependent on petroleum?

Q #7
What would be the most pressing question you would have when you wake up tomorrow? And who should answer it?

Enjoy the day…
