Tuesday Talks VII

The Night the World Stood Still!!

Thankfully, I will be on a plane this evening. At the moment I am in the Maple Leaf Lounge at YYZ. Air Canada is making sure the evening evolves delightfully as it gives me delightful sips of single malt. Also had a bowl of chili – so, if nothing else, I will sleep on the plane.

Tomorrow will not be an easy day for anyone – no matter who wins today, tomorrow will be recriminations and accusations along with growing anger within half of the population. You don’t have to be a Democrat or a Republican to know that until we get to 2028 and get some new, younger blood in the political stratosphere, rudeness and disinformation and belligerence will be the modus operandi of North American (if not world-wide) politics. I have been following the election on both the left wing & right wing media. It’s hard to tell them apart. Other than the occasional columnist like Dan Rather, the level of writing, commentary and perspective is basically the same. If you don’t like Trump I can give you some writers that will fill your breakfast bowl without the need for 3% milk. If you do find him palatable I can give you some writers that will curdle the milk poured onto your cereal.

The point? No one is really trying to educate the American voter to the issues. Everyone is pandering to their readership or followers. History will not look kindly on this era of journalism.

Of course, perhaps the same can be said for Canada, although I would disagree. I enjoy reading both the Globe & Mail as well as the National Post. Both employ good writers; both have some slackers. But both are better than the CBC. In fact both are marginally better than CTV or Global. Our problem, like those to the south, is that our choice of leadership is sadly far below what we should be expecting at this stage of our national development. Now that may be due to our incessant adherence to wokeness but hopefully this too will pass in the next few years (or even less).

As I said earlier, I am glad that I am about to get on a plane. When I get off, I am liable to turn on the satellite radio and listen to Symphony Hall!! I just hope you will have access to some fine wine, or delightful single malt or even a vibrant craft beer… I will be back, after all in another week it will be Tuesday again!!
