Tuesday Talks — The End of March

It is already the end of March!!

This morning during my mini-workout the music switched from John Stewart & the Phoenix Concerts to U2. This Irish band continues to amaze me with the relevance of their music forty years after it was first recorded. One song still resonates with me: I still haven’t found what I am looking for! Sometimes I wonder if that, along with John Stewart’s You Can’t Go Back to Kansas should be the lead music on my funeral play list. But hopefully, I digress…

Last night I went to a fun movie. I like Ryan Gosling: good actor, typical Canadian in many ways and often off piste (by the way, Ryan is a favourite name of several famous Canadians including Ryan Reynolds and Ryan Wedding!!). Gosling is a major player behind the movie, Hail Mary. He is also the major screen presence. No doubt he enjoyed two films when he was a kid: 2001 – A Space Odyssey & ET, because this new film is an interesting mix of those two, with some updating along the way. For most people it may be a little too long; but if you watch on either Seniors’ Mondays or Cheapo Tuesday, get some popcorn and bring a bottle of water, it will be a worthwhile time. Rock (the ET alter-ego) is priceless and its learning curve is neat to watch, especially for an educator.

Hard to believe that we are already into Spring and that today is the last day in March. But since I had to give up skiing because of the stitches on my face & ear, I’m okay with April to arrive. I only hope that on Thursday the surgeon gives the go ahead for me to wear a helmet once again, as I would definitely like to get my bike out – especially in the early mornings and ride into the hills. Not in a big hurry to play golf, but that has more to do with my handicap now beyond thirty and the chances of it returning to more wonderful numbers are between nil and unlikely. [I will no doubt play some games, as it is an opportunity to walk or ride on green grass!]

Thought I should also mention for the Green lovers out there that so far my updated SUV (the 2024 PHEV X3e that I acquired in the autumn) is operating 50% of the time on pure electric. That even is better than the 530e which continues to give us 40% pure electric driving. I mention all this because I remain convinced that if governments were to promote PHEV’s instead of straight EV’s the shift away from all-gas/diesel would happen more quickly. Again though I don’t see many politicians with sensible long-range vision. [I will refrain from commenting at this time on the federal NDP’s choice of leader other than to say, I am glad to see that surrealistic pillows have again come to the fore, although not to the same benefit as when the Jefferson Airplane debuted theirs.]

It’s sunny outside my study. Life is good. More news will unfold in the month(s) ahead I am certain. But for now, let me wish you a great morning tomorrow and a delightful month to come.

In reflection,
g.w.
